At most, it was related to a side-case. We had a lot of those.

No. We're paid a flat salary.

The detective I was working with just... really liked doing them. I think.

... Detective DuBois was given the role of leading the investigation. It was my duty to accompany him, no matter how sidetracked he seemed to be at times.

[malewife]

... Then I take back what I said. I would hope these side quests aren't too frivolous.

It's been... varied.

While on the job, he helped turn an abandoned church into a dance club, which... didn't really help the investigation. But it did get a few homeless teenagers out of tents and under a roof.

He also developed an inexplicable fascination with cryptozoology, which... somehow did end up connecting to the case, in some bizarre way.

Is he as zealous as Herlock Sholmes?

Possibly more so, in some ways.

Maybe. They are both completely mad. But they also do good detective work.
