What did you see there? Not much...?

A forest. Vast and lush. And a giant tree that towered over all the others.

D'ya think it might be related to the tree of knowledge?

I wondered that, but...

That tree is gone, isn't it? The whole garden laid to waste. The world I saw was thriving.

Maybe it's somewhere related?

I dunno anywhere else that would have a forest like that.

Me, neither. But it can't be... I think...

[He does try to think of how it can be, but it seems a bit meaningless when he knows nothing for sure.]

They were looking through "windows"... They opened up rifts in reality itself, leading directly to the other worlds.

From... early on?

"These windows between our worlds, that we opened with our greedy hands, have so foolishly been left open."

Maybe this world hasn't been closed off from the other ones.

Yes. At least, I think that's what they were. It seems the Magisterium can control them.

Could be the ones who kept openin' up worlds to each other.

I think that's likely.

[He frowns as he thinks on that.]

's too bad we can't talk to them directly.

[Rat shake them into giving some answers, maybe.]

The ones I encountered weren't much for conversation. They only talked about their enthusiasm for their experiments, about punishing those who defy the Authority, and... that sort of thing.

[He shakes his head.]

Guess we'll work with what information we've already got.
