[Late in the day, Kim's checking out the hotel. He wears a pair of jeans with a long-sleeved shirt. Bruises cover his face. A bandicoot sits perched on his shoulder, sniffing up at the air as he enters the kitchen and observes his surroundings, noting the young man nearby.]
A kitchen. Looks like we can use this, what with the staff being unavailable.
[ akira is crouched at the oven, inspecting the broiler with a snake curled around his neck like a not so fashionable boa. he looks up and stares just a little in his intimidating all black 90's hot topic ensemble. ]
The hell happen to you? You get into a fight with big bird? [ we'll get to the kitchen comment later. ]
[ Akira has never been a beach person, but he finds himself on the shore for the second time in not so many days in spite of it. Part of it is his desire to be alone and somewhere quiet (haha) and the other part is curiosity in whether anything was here after all and he missed it. ]
It seems that the evidence in the other locations has... vanished.
[Kim just shows up nearby, with a vague gesture to punctuate the mysteriousness of that fact. He's very tired of mysterious facts today, but fuck it, here's a new one.]
[ (And away we go to memshare land because snake daemons are good at touching glass on the ground.)
The blaring warning of a railroad crossing cuts through, hazard lights flashing as you stumble backwards back onto asphalt. The train is coming soon, but your focus isn't on the obvious danger, but on the large looming mass just beyond the crossing. Huge, impossible, grotesque with a grin that isn't quite Cheshire but in some ways innocent, this is Kubitarou of Kintoki. And she wants your head.
The why isn't immediately apparent, but it isn't important—you're out of breath but not out of gas, but that isn't the same for the tawny hair boy next to you who's on his last legs. You could throw him over your shoulder but it would slow you down, and spirits don't have lungs nor any use for them. You need to confront her here. She's stopped momentarily, distracted by the lights but they won't last forever.
The boy next to you put his hand on the gun under his belt, but that's a dead end too. If you could have punched a spirit to death, you would have already. You need to give her what she wants. You grab the stuffed teddy bear in your backpack, make quick work of ripping off it's head, and throw the bear's head together with the worn, frayed body of a stuffed animal that's seen better days to the boy. You hope he understands, since you don't know how to sew.
Apparently he does, and apparently he knows how to use a needle and a thread like the boy scout he is. In a better situation, you might have laughed. Kubitarou has started to move again, and you know this is it. You always thought you would die for a stupid idea, but this takes the cake. The other boy throws the stitched together plush to her and....she stops. She stops and laughs, no, giggles.
And then she's gone. Actually gone, the senses in your core tell you. Right below where she stood is a pool of blood.
You reach out for it instinctively with your right hand and take a deep breath as your visit turns red. An image flashes through your mind, horrifying in many ways but it doesn't matter. You know where she is. You know where Ami is and you're going to save her.
Kubitarou and Ami, yeah. [ Akira's gaze is down at the moment, focused on his right hand which is balled into a fist. With a sigh he relaxes and then looks at Kim. ]
Dealing with the spirits was the only way to figure out where Ami was. Every time they vanished I— [ He cuts himself off before he can finish, betraying that out of everything Kim just saw, that's the part he wants to hide the most. ]
[Somewhere in town, Kim's daemon picks up a glass shard in her talons as she moves about in the form of a great skua. He doesn't realize there's someone else nearby, but in an instant, both he and Akira experience the pain of a thousand radio stations being blasted into their heads as they relive a particularly horrible memory.]
[ Ergh, that was. A whole lot? Even for someone like him who's seen shit. Akira's rubbing his ears and shaking his head when he's back in the present, running his hands along his arms too like he's checking for something. ]
[ Being outside is an entire mood, and though he doesn't come too close, he comes within talking distance of Kim. He looks at the cigarette then stares up. ]
I've never wanted to smoke cause it affects your lung capacity which is shit for fighting. But that doesn't seem that bad right now.
[ He's leaning up against one of them, staring off into the distance. From his body language he's not angry, at least. Nagako is draped around his shoulders. ]
