[Kim's out being a responsible adult and professional, surveying the city for their missing person and whatever else might be going on. He stops when he comes across Flat at the beach.]
I really hope he's alive. I'm not sure if we can find more driftwood to burn another body. Maybe he just got lost somewhere while running from the sirens.
[ flat’s eyes light up just a bit, eyeing the area. ]
It’s not the same, but in my home city we would have a big car race every year; The Monaco Grand Prix. They’d close the streets for everyone except the race cars!
[ flat’s eyes light up similarly, recalling the experience. ]
That’s such a shame, sir! It’s probably one of the biggest events where I’m from. If we ever have a chance to visit each other’s worlds, I’d love to take you.
[ he smiles, continuing. ]
I’ve never raced myself, but cars are fascinating! What about you, sir?
[It's their first night after a day at the lodge, and it looks like Kim and Flat are in a room together!
Kim's looking over the room. He has a turtleneck on under his bomber jacket. There are bruises on his face -- it's probably fine. Cecile, as a bandicoot, is burrowing under the blankets on the bed, visible only as a moving lump.]
They're really committed to the ice theme... Feels like it's going to be freezing overnight.
[Kim nods, sets his satchel down, and pulls some out for Flat. Cecile tunnels over closer and crawls out from under the blanket to see what's going on.]
It seems like they don't heal, do they? I suppose covering them up is the best anyone can do.
[Not much of an option for Kim, since his phantom injuries are on his face. But also, they're not bleeding, and apparently he's in the minority on that. So that's lucky.]
Gosh, it’d be soooo much better if I could use my magecraft to staunch the bleeding. All my clothes are going to stain
[ he’s so chill about this, actually. annoyed, but coolly accepting the situation.
he’ll set the bandages on the bed and tug his shirt off to a sight that i’m sure kim has seen before, as his front has a rather nasty exit wound, which he will begin to bandage mechanically. ]
Yes, and now you're stuck doing it the normal, boring way. Like most of us non-magical people. There are some clean rags if you need them... [He sets them out as well, slowly glancing between them and this big gaping wound he's casually sporting...]
Mm, I don’t mind not having magecraft that much…I mean, I haven’t felt any adverse effects, despite the blood loss being constant.
[ he will take a couple of the rags, more or less covering the wound with it and holding it and one end of the bandages with one hand. with the other, he begins to wrap them around his abdomen.
[He just nods. Sometimes somebody just decides that the last thing they're gonna do on this Earth is attempt to take you with them. It be like that.]
It's not a very interesting story. I joined the RCM -- Revachol's police force -- when I was 23. Started out in Juvie, and moved to Homicide five years ago.
I mean, it's not exactly the same as a university like Oxford, but it's pretty much the same thing, just with Magecraft instead of something like Engineering or Biology.
Week 0, Friday
Seen anything out of the ordinary here?

flat shakes his head. ]
Nope, sir. I thought our missing person would come out maybe, but nothing yet! [ he shrugs, smiling apologetically. ] What about you, sir?
no subject
And we've covered quite a lot of ground by now...
[He doesn't sound very optimistic.]

no subject
... But it doesn't look good.

[ ... ]
I really hope he's alive. I'm not sure if we can find more driftwood to burn another body. Maybe he just got lost somewhere while running from the sirens.
no subject
... Of course, we don't know anything for sure at this point.
w4 ; tuesday morning
he perks up, smiling. ]
Mister Kim!
[ and will go running towards him, whether he likes it or Not ]
no subject
Mr. Escardos. Do you need something?
no subject
I don't! But I was just looking around. Are you fond of fighting, sir?

It’s not the same, but in my home city we would have a big car race every year; The Monaco Grand Prix. They’d close the streets for everyone except the race cars!
no subject
Seriously? That's incredible. I don't think that would fly in Revachol...
But we do have a pretty impressive motorcar racing track of our own. [He smiles a little.] Nice to meet another fan.

[He seems a little awed at the idea of it. Like there's a potential here that he's never seriously considered.]
... About the same. My Kineema is a powerful machine, but it's not racing class.
Week 5, Monday
Kim's looking over the room. He has a turtleneck on under his bomber jacket. There are bruises on his face -- it's probably fine. Cecile, as a bandicoot, is burrowing under the blankets on the bed, visible only as a moving lump.]
They're really committed to the ice theme... Feels like it's going to be freezing overnight.

miserable.
not so much because of the large bloodstain on his abdomen, but because he’s glaring at the lump of under the bedsheets for taking it first. ]
This is way too cold! This is the worst world we have ever been in. And these effects suck.
no subject
I don't think I'm going to get used to this. Do you... want something for that?
no subject
[ he looks down, only mildly surprised before nodding calmly. ]
Bandages would be nice, I think.
no subject
It seems like they don't heal, do they? I suppose covering them up is the best anyone can do.
[Not much of an option for Kim, since his phantom injuries are on his face. But also, they're not bleeding, and apparently he's in the minority on that. So that's lucky.]

Dare I ask how you got that...?
no subject
[ he will take a couple of the rags, more or less covering the wound with it and holding it and one end of the bandages with one hand. with the other, he begins to wrap them around his abdomen.
as for the question… it has a simple answer. ]
I was shot by a sniper.
no subject
[Yikes.]
I suppose you're lucky to be alive at all.
no subject
[ … ]
Yeah! I guess so.
[ his smile looks a little forced, but he’ll try to change the subject. ]
How did you get those injuries?
no subject
I was in a... shoot-out.
A woman tried to kill me. I shot her. Then she beat me with the butt of her gun.
[He recites the facts like he's done it a hundred times -- most of them in his own head.]
no subject
[ once all bandaged up, flat goes to put his shirt and jacket back on—it’s too damn cold not to have them on. ]
But you caught her, right? Or did she get away?
no subject
She died.
She hit me until her strength ran out. Then she bled out on the pavement.
no subject
[ flat gives him… a pitiful smile? but not much else. ]
How did you even end up as a detective, sir?
no subject
It's not a very interesting story. I joined the RCM -- Revachol's police force -- when I was 23. Started out in Juvie, and moved to Homicide five years ago.
no subject
[ which means that flat listens to his short explanation with interest. ]
Why did you join the police?
no subject

no subject
I believe the RCM is necessary for Revachol. And my role, small as it may be in the grand scheme of things, is also necessary.
no subject
[ flat nods in agreement ]
A missing screw can make a big difference in the long run. I'm glad to know that you're helping people, even if it's in your own way.
no subject
What about you? What is it that you do, back home?
no subject
[ flat beams ]
I mean, it's not exactly the same as a university like Oxford, but it's pretty much the same thing, just with Magecraft instead of something like Engineering or Biology.
no subject
[He doesn't know what Oxford is, but at least he's heard of London? This isn't too out there.]
And what do you use Magecraft for?
