[Kim's out smoking by the church when he sees Monika nearby. He nods in greeting.]

Miss Susato is safe. At least there's that.

[rerouter]

Yes... At least there's that.

[A little bit flatly. It will have to be enough, but... Oh, well. After a pause, she glances at whatever it is he's smoking.]

... Does that help?

[It's a cigarette! Some generic one, I guess. He probably can't find his brand here.]

... Yes. [He looks away, a little self-consciously, but he doesn't really shy away from giving a direct answer.]

It's a bad habit, and one that I keep in strict moderation. But it helps.

... I see.

[Said in the tone of a teenager who is curious about a thing, but has enough self-control to not do the thing.]

Well, we're all looking for ways to cope. So, as long as it keeps you sane...

[He quietly takes a long drag from said cigarette.]

I suppose we are. Though some methods are probably worse than others...

How have you been holding up, for that matter?

... I'm okay. Not great, but better than some of the others I bet.

[Like, Allen and Yukio must be so distraught...]

I wish we could have done things differently.

Me too.

The best we can do is avoid the worst case scenario... which we have. It doesn't feel like a victory, but it's the closest thing we have to one.
